Thursday Threesome

Trifecta: any achievement involving three successful outcomes.

Yup, that was the case yesterday! Shoulders, Back and Triceps. My wonderful child is an early bird and a ball of energy in the morning . It often takes him forever to take his first nap of the day. Around 10:30AM I was basically chanting for him to go to sleep, "Sleep. You are sleepy. Sleep. You are sleepy." It didn't work. Bummer. Eventually he did fall asleep for just the right amount of time and I was able to work out my shoulders all the way around: Front, side and back deltoids.
  • Arnold Press
  • Front and side Lateral Raise
  • Bent over lateral raise
  • Alternating Shoulder Dumbbell Press
Not many exercises but enough, and I'm thankful for them. I was surprised I was able to fit in as many as I did. YES. Success number 1.

Our son's 1st birthday Rock Star Bash is on Sunday and the cake lady came last night to bring two other flavors for us to try. This is where things may have become counter productive... the cakes were delicious! Worst part is that I didn't feel one bit guilty for eating it... it was THAT good. Jr and his daddy really enjoyed it too so the calories were shared. Baby fell asleep around 9:30 and the other 2/3 of the trifecta followed.
I alternated between back and triceps exercises:
  • Pullups (mostly wide, but I did different types)
  • Bent over tricep extension & Overhead extension (8 & 12 lbs dumbbells)
  • Bent over rows (20lbs.dumbbells)
  • Dips (These I increased difficulty with every set: raising the incline, and then my last set was legs parallel to the floor with one leg raised)
I did all of these back to back with very little break 4 times all till failure... It was fun! haha

After I showered, my body was so exhausted it was tough to brush my hair. I had to brush in sections and take breaks... felt like another workout. Good times.

We have some plans tonight so I'm hoping to squeeze my leg workout during one of Jr's naps! I'll make it fast and effective. Maybe p90x plyo? The first week has proven a little difficult to get back int o the swing of things and developing a routine, but nothing is impossible.
These are bigger than I would like, but those babies are SOLID

  1. Awesome! I LOVE triples! Glad they worked out for you! I do Pylo-X or Insanity for the days I need to squeeze in a workout too, so that should be great! Don't fret at all about the cake, you'll make that up easily and it's for a good cause, lol!

And that model's legs? I LOVE big calves so those aren't my goal, lol: bigger bigger bigger! Have a great workout today!

  2. LOL, thanks, yeah P90x is good when you're short on time. Her thighs are too big I think (she has that "Thunder Thighs" thing going. Looks too big for her upper body, but they are strong, and her ass is fantastic. I'm not trying to get huge, I want size, but most of all definition. A pro coach is gonna check me out and see how to help me... we'll see how that goes. I'm only one week down and several to go.

  3. This morning at the gym there was this lady who had AMAZING cuts all over; I wanted to go talk to her about her routine but i dont know how open some people are about it like if she cares to ~help a sistah out~ lol! Either way I was pressed for time but if she's there on Monday I'll ask her anyway. Vero wants me to tone and all, but I want to SEE everything. I think it's how I say it, Vero thinks I want to look like a boy, lol which isn't feasible anyway so it's comical that she's so worried about it. But I know that I do like well sculpted legs and yeah, huge calves lol

  5. Ana, I think proportion is number one. Regardless of how great your legs are your upper body should match. So big legs and calves then big upper body too. You should definitely see what's up with that lady. Hopefully she shares. I would.

Nikki, yeah, it was tough. Lol. You may not be able to do it now but if you train you would :)
